People often ask if they can bring their fur baby to their session. YES!!! I love dogs, and as a dog owner, I know that they are a member of the family! You might be worried about how your dog will act during a photoshoot, so I created this guide to help make your session a breeze! Growing up, my dogs were all crazy energetic, so I understand why someone would be hesitant to bring their pet. My lab Leah was my model for my fall minis, and we got some great photos!
Before the Shoot
You have to plan your outfit, but don’t forget to pick your dog’s outfit too! A cute collar or bandanna can add a lot of character. Plus, you can even coordinate your pet’s accessories to your outfit. Also, you can’t forget the treats! Treats can go a long way when it comes to getting your dog to look at the camera. You know your dog better than anyone so you know what treats are the best to use as a reward. I recommend asking a friend to come with you. They can help by holding your dog’s treats while we snap photos and then hold your dog’s leash and other items after your dog has taken all their glamour shots. This way, your dog is with someone they know and can relax while we snap your solo photos!
Day of the Shoot
Make sure to arrive early so that your dog has time to sniff around, explore, and get comfortable in the area before the session. Feel free to go for a short walk and explore. While you walk, have your dog practice sit and stay in the new area. Your dog might start distracted at a new location in the beginning but be patient, and they’ll come around. Don’t forget to use the restroom beforehand! Using the bathroom helps your dog feel comfortable, and you’ll know there won’t be a potty break during our session. Last but not least, have fun! I know it feels crazy at first, but your dog can sense your stress, so remember if you’re comfortable and relaxed, your dog will be too!
